The Algorand Foundation launched the Global x402 Challenge, a developer competition for building APIs that AI agents can pay for using the x402 protocol. The prize pool totals 100,000 USD and 500,000 ALGO. Registration closes on September 1, 2026.
The x402 protocol embeds payment logic into HTTP requests so that AI agents can pay for individual API calls directly. Prizes are awarded based on usage and leaderboard placement.
