go-algorand version 5.0.4 was released on 20 October 2026, introducing consensus version v43 to the Algorand protocol. The update corrects inconsistencies in minimum balance handling during close-out transactions through a new feature called CloseRequiresBaseMinBalance, and adds zstd compression support to agreement crash recovery snapshots.
The release was published as a stable version and deployed to MainNet and TestNet by the Algorand DevOps team. A beta build (v5.0.4-beta) was also issued with the same protocol changes. Node runners are required to upgrade to v5.0.4 or their nodes will stall, as the release includes a protocol change.

Algorand releases AC2, an open standard that gives AI agent approvals a cryptographic signature
The Algorand Foundation has released AC2, an open-standard protocol for agentic commerce on Algorand. AC2 uses hardware-bound passkey approvals and cryptographic signatures to provide a verifiable audit trail for every transaction executed by an AI agent, replacing session-level tokens that are easy to phish. The protocol covers a three-step flow: a request from the agent, a single-flow payment, and on-chain settlement of the delivery proof. A companion wallet app is available for iOS and Android.
