go-algorand 5.0.0-beta adds Falcon-1024 signatures, AVM v13 and poseidon2 hash
go-algorand version 5.0.0-beta is a protocol upgrade that introduces Falcon-1024 post-quantum account signatures, the AVM v13 virtual machine, the poseidon2 hash function, a new node API for peer discovery, and per-byte fee pricing for larger transactions. The deprecated dryrun and tealdbg tools have been removed.
The Falcon-1024 signature scheme is the post-quantum signature added to the account model. AVM v13 is the version of the Algorand Virtual Machine that executes smart contracts. Per-byte fee pricing means transaction fees are now calculated based on the size of each transaction rather than a fixed amount. The poseidon2 hash function and the new peer-discovery node API round out the protocol-level changes. The dryrun and tealdbg tools, both previously marked deprecated, are no longer included.
