The Algorand Foundation released version 2.9.0-beta.2 of the AlgoKit command line interface on 3 September 2025. The release pins the prompt_toolkit dependency to resolve an issue where the latest version of that library caused the algokit init command to fail.
The fix was merged as pull request #680. The underlying problem was that prompt_toolkit's most recent release introduced a change incompatible with how AlgoKit invoked its initialization step.
