Algorand activates native Falcon-1024 post-quantum accounts on MainNet, completing first stage of 2027 quantum-resilience roadmap

Covered by 4 sources

The Algorand Foundation confirmed that native post-quantum accounts using Falcon-1024 signatures are live on MainNet. This adds to State Proofs, which have provided quantum-resistant on-chain history since 2022, making Algorand one of only two Layer-1 blockchains in the CoinMarketCap Top 100 with post-quantum cryptography running on mainnet alongside NEAR. The Foundation's roadmap targets full quantum resilience across all network components by 2027.

Completed elements of the roadmap include Falcon-1024 LogicSig accounts with corresponding support in the SDK, AlgoKit, and the Pera Wallet. In development are Falcon-512 research and hybrid LogicSig accounts. PQ consensus and a PQ VDF research paper are planned for 2027 and early 2027 respectively, subject to industry consensus.
